Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
Entertainment on car journeys: can be tricky. We usually drive during the day and take frequent breaks. Boy has books, CDs and as a last resort, my Iphone. He gets snacks, which he doesn't usually get. Last year he helped us finding the way on a map

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
No, we haven't got one of those. But maybe we' ll have to get one at some stage. He looked funny and really important, when he was readingthe map. He managed to work out the different types of roads.
Language: he wants to talk to his english relatives, doesn't he. Hubby uses skype a lot to speak to his brother. And our family language is senglish. I noticed that boy sometimes uses a more german pronounciation when speaking with my mum. I hope he'll keep his english accent, though

Sometimes I just have to tell him to shut up and take a nap so time goes faster. He sometimes does that

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
I have to try that
Somehow, I don't think it will work though... the first answer is most always NO.
Our family language is English too (hubbys German is crap
), so I guess he'll pick it up fast enough. I am curious about his accent though. Naughty comes out perfect
Though after listening to some of the English programmes on telly I'll need a translator soon too. They are all well fit
TOWIE anyone??

@ entertainment in the car: I was never in favour of DVD's in the car, untill a friend (with older twins) said that it's the only really good thing you can have if you have to travel a whole day in a car. When the twins were 2 years old, they had car DVD-sets with 2 screens on special offer in Mediamarkt. So I went and bought them. And I really must say that they are worth their weight in gold! We drive about 3 or 4 times a year to Belgium (minimum 8 hours in the car), once a year to Tessin (4 hours drive) and once a year to Italy (also about 8 hours drive). Each time, the children watch films nearly the whole time and the trips are relatively relaxed. We loooooove our dvd player in the car
@ family language: I speak Flemish with the kids (hubby understands what we say), hubby speaks swiss-german with the kids (I understand what they say
) and me and hubby speak English together (little ones understand most of it).
@ me: quite busy at the moment:
- Saturday we leave on a skiing holiday.
- I finally got my Swiss passport
- as of the first of march, we officially became owners of a house

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
It looks nice, but really: a fun indoor playground or something equally fun for kids is so difficult to find here. I guess in England it's a necessity because of the weather
Anyway: Igglepiggle is Piddlepiddle in our house

Bigger crowds to attract in Britain, I suppose. There seems to be a lot more on offer across there.Mrs. Bee hat geschrieben:It looks nice, but really: a fun indoor playground or something equally fun for kids is so difficult to find here. Isn't your boy scared of the finishing scene of night garden? Ours used to cry.
@katreseke: congratulations on the passport and the house. What's the house like? Will you move soon? Is it in the same village where you live now? I'm curious

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
There is an indoor playground not too far from where we live, but haven't managed it yet. Heard mixed results, so I'll have to judge for myself.
Night garden: can't stand it! It's torture, seriously.. only topped by waybuloos. Who comes up with this rubbish??? And hubby is not helping by sitting next to little man and giving everybody different (and rude) names
Little man adores Rosie (everything's Rosie), and this I actually quite like.

Re: English Chitchat, let's go!!
Luckily boy no longer likes to watch night garden or waybuloo. I don't see the point in them, either. He's got his two or three favourite programmes on cbeebies, but doesn't have to watch them, if he's too busy playing.
Just have to share a layground episode: we wanted to go for a walk yesterday, but boy met some kids, he'd not met before, in the playground and wantedto hang around. They started playong together so boy decided to tell them his best English joke in English!! You should have seen the little girls face. And our boy couldn't understand why she didn't like his joke.

Lost in Translation
Little man gets quite frustrated if he's telling stories to his Grandpa and A) Grandpa is hard of hearing and B) Grandpa doesn't understand Swiss German...
